Abdul Rahman Al Owais: The midwifery profession is an essential pillar of our health system

Dubai, May 5 / WAM / His Excellency Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Community Protection, confirmed that the midwifery profession is an essential pillar of the UAE’s health system due to the specialized care it provides to mothers and generations, which reflects the country’s trends towards leadership and adopting best practices to enhance and sustain the system. Health in line with the UAE Centennial Vision 2071.

In a statement on the occasion of International Midwifery Day, which falls on May 5 of each year, His Excellency pointed out the importance of celebrating the efforts and achievements of midwifery cadres, sharing their success stories, and highlighting their contributions, dedication, and commitment within the health care system at various levels.

His Excellency pointed out that nursing and midwifery cadres are considered the vital lifeblood of health facilities, as their roles are at the heart of health care systems, stressing the Ministry’s keenness to support the country’s strategy in raising awareness of the importance of this profession by adopting advanced and innovative policies and programmes, as well as providing an appropriate environment to develop the skills of midwifery cadres. And to contribute to enhancing society’s positive outlook towards the midwifery profession to attract and attract national cadres, given the closeness of midwives to understanding the culture and customs of Emirati society and their being a source of trust and reassurance in providing safe care for mothers and newborns and supporting the health of the family and community.

Al Owais stressed that supporting the nursing and midwifery professions is considered one of the priorities of the UAE government in implementation of the axes of the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery 2026, which represents a future vision that enhances the status of midwifery and nursing within health policies aimed at increasing citizens’ interest in joining these professions, improving academic programs and raising the quality of midwifery care services. Because these medical professions contribute to enhancing health security within the future vision of the country.
