Russia rejects draft UN Security Council resolution on climate and security

The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, said that Russia objects to the adoption of a resolution linking climate and security issues by the UN Security Council.

“We oppose the creation of a new direction for the Council’s work that emphasizes a general and automatic link between climate change and international security,” Nebenzia said.

He noted that such an approach is unacceptable for Russia.
