The Russian Ministry of Defense has begun construction of bases for the storage and maintenance of 3M22 “Zircon” hypersonic missiles.

According to sources in the Russian military circle, these facilities will be built for all four fleets – Northern, Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific. However, the Northern Fleet would be the first to have such a base.

– Military expert Dmitry Boltenkov also believes that the choice of the Northern Fleet was not accidental. Where it plays an important role in the Russian defense doctrine. In addition, zircon is being tested in the waters of the Barents and the White Sea, launched from the Admiral Gorshkov frigate of project 22350 or the Severodvinsk submarine of project 855 Ash “which is part of the Federation Council”,

He explained that these bases maintain a certain climatic regime for the storage of ammunition. The expert also noted the need to protect buildings from possible enemy bomb and missile attacks.

“Their design is calculated with such impacts in mind. We cannot rule out the possibility of fires or other emergencies, which would require the installation of additional protection systems,” Boltenkov said.
