Russian intelligence announces its intention to cooperate with the CIA

 

The head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, Sergei Naryshkin, said that during a meeting in Moscow in November with the director of the CIA, William Burns, he indicated the agency’s interest in cooperating with the CIA on a generally accepted basis. According to him, at the moment, only a few special services have openly stated that they would like to conduct a dialogue with the foreign intelligence service of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the department cooperates with all important intelligence agencies on an ongoing basis.

“Our partners include the CIA, with which we maintain interaction on the fight against international terrorism and exchange views on topical issues of our time,” Naryshkin said.

Speaking about the generally accepted principles of partnership, the head of SVR noted that these principles include equality, confidentiality, and adherence to unspoken ethical standards adopted in the global intelligence community.
