Scientists determine how long COVID-19 can stay in the body

Scientists from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) conducted a study that showed that the SARS-CoV-2 virus can enter most organs of the body, especially the heart and brain, and persist there for more than seven months.
An article on this topic was published on Research Square.

“We found persistent SARS-CoV-2 RNA in a variety of anatomical regions, including regions throughout the brain, up to 230 days after symptom onset,” the publication said.

Researchers note that SARS-CoV-2 has been found in nearly every organ in the body. Even in patients with mild or no symptoms, the virus is “widely spread” in the body.
At the same time, scientists note that they did not reveal serious inflammation outside the lungs.
