The International Council of Imams banned Muslims from participating in the upcoming Olympics due to the violation of the rights of the Uyghurs – the indigenous Muslim population of one of the regions of China.
“We salute the organizations boycotting the Beijing Games and express our solidarity with the World Uyghur Congress,” the World Council of Imams said in a statement.
We support the persecuted Uyghur Muslims, and we are united with them. The Chinese government continues to violate the fundamental rights of Chinese Muslims and human rights through repression, torture and dictatorship.
Under the authority granted to the council by the holy Islamic seminary in Najaf and the prominent muftis of the Islamic world, the World Imams Council decided to ban participation in the 2022 Olympics.
This event directly serves the interests of the authoritarian and authoritarian regime responsible for the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Uyghurs.
