Scientists discover how to provide Earth with electricity from space as an alternative to nuclear energy

The specialists of the Russian Space Systems Holding (RCS) have developed a project for the space solar power station (SKES).

The space solar power station will consist of a transmitter unit – an unmanned spacecraft with an area of \u200b\u200b70 square meters. m, which will collect the energy of the sun, and the receiving unit. It is assumed that the instruments will be placed in sun-synchronous orbits with inclinations of 82°, 90° and 98°.

The project will allow the remote island and mountainous and northern regions of the land to be provided with alternative electricity, regardless of weather conditions at any time of the day.
Also, the device will be able to transfer power to other spacecraft for scheduled recharge or in an emergency situation.

Maria Barkova, a research engineer in the RCS Advanced Equipment Development Division, explained that it can be converted into a laser beam and transmitted to Earth with minimal energy loss.

“In the atmosphere of our planet, the sun’s rays are scattered and almost completely lose their energy efficiency. However, in outer space, the efficiency of solar energy use is dozens of times higher.”
She added that this development is a good alternative to thermonuclear energy.
