For the first time in the history of the United States, the captain of a nuclear aircraft carrier is a woman

For the first time in US history, a woman has been appointed to command a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. This was reported by the Military.com portal.

Amy Bowerschmidt becomes the captain of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Under her command, the ship, along with a strike group, sailed from San Diego to the planned deployment area.

Bauernschmidt graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1994. Her class was the first in which women were allowed to serve on warships. In 1996, Bauernschmidt was appointed as a pilot. It has 3000 flying hours.
