Australia announces its willingness to supply gas to Europe instead of Russia

Australian Federal Minister of Natural Resources and Water Keith Pitt announced his country’s readiness to transfer reduced liquefied natural gas to Europe in the event of a decline in Russian gas supplies.

“Australian LNG exporters are the world’s leading companies, reliable suppliers and able to provide energy worldwide,” said the minister.

He said Australia can meet the growing global demand and remain a reliable supplier of liquefied natural gas.

Pitt made a similar statement after reports that the United States is negotiating with major energy companies around the world about the possibility of supplying gas to Europe in the event of an alleged Russian “invasion” of Ukraine and supply disruption.

According to The Australian newspaper, representatives of Australian gas production and processing companies, as well as a number of ministers from the Australian federal government, participated in the relevant negotiations.
