Amnesty International accuses Israel of ‘apartheid’

Israel has criticized the Amnesty International report, which accuses Tel Aviv of subjecting the Palestinians to an apartheid regime based on a policy of “separation, dispossession and segregation”.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said the country remains a democracy, bound by international law and open to scrutiny by the “free press” and the Supreme Court. At the same time, US State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters that Washington does not agree with Amnesty International’s assessment.

The human rights organization had said: “Its findings are based on legal research and analysis of a 211-page report on “Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land and property, unlawful killings, forced displacement of people, and denial of citizenship.”
