An American said that her avatar in the metaverse was sexually assaulted by other users.
According to Nina Jane Patel, the accident happened about a minute after she connected to the Meta Horizon website. Four tokens ran up to the woman and started saying inappropriate things to her.
Nina recalls: “They raped my avatar and took some pictures and then yelled, ‘Don’t pretend you don’t like it.
After these words, the woman turned off the Internet to escape the rapists, and has since been suffering from anxiety attacks. Meta also learned about the incident by commenting on the situation.
“We are very sorry this happened,” the statement said. “We want everyone in the metaverse to have a positive experience and to easily find security tools that can help in a situation like this.”
