New Omicron mutant discovered in Russia

The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova of Russia, said that a subtype of the “omicron” VA.2 strain has been identified in several regions of Russia.

According to her, the BA.2 mutation was registered in Moscow, Republic of Mari El, Rostov Region, Republic of Bashkortostan.

“A number of countries are talking about a high infection rate of this mutant. In Denmark, it has become dominant – 82%, but at the same time in the United Kingdom and the United States, its share today is 8-9%,” Popova said.

She also noted that no subtype of “omicron” VA.3 had been identified in Russia.
