Taliban appoints woman to leadership position

For the first time since seizing power in Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban have appointed women to leadership positions in Kabul. They will head the maternity hospital and the gynecology clinic, respectively.
This was announced by the group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, on his Twitter account.

Dr. has been appointed. Ariane, director of the Ara Clinic for Gynecology. Malalay Rahim became the director of a private maternity hospital in Kabul.

A week ago, a Taliban delegation held talks in Norway with Western officials. The Taliban were reportedly asked to improve women’s rights in order to obtain international financial assistance.

After coming to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban imposed a number of restrictions on women. They abolished the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, and instead created the Ministry of Islamic Call, Guidance, Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil.

The Taliban also restricted girls’ access to schools in most Afghan provinces, required television presenters to wear headscarves, and advised local television channels to refrain from showing films depicting women.

It also became known that the Taliban prohibited dealing with unaccompanied women.
