England confirms first death from Lassa fever

The UK’s Health Safety Agency has confirmed that the first death from Lassa fever has been reported in England.

“The risk to the public remains very low,” the ministry said.

A Bedfordshire NHS spokesperson expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.

So far, three cases of the disease have been recorded in the Kingdom.

Lassa fever is an acute viral disease, which in the case of development is characterized by a severe course, damage to the respiratory organs, kidneys and central nervous system.

Sometimes the fever is asymptomatic, more often there are cases in which the virus affects several internal organs.

Lassa fever is endemic in Nigeria and is transmitted by rodents. Early symptoms include fever, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and sore throat; And in severe cases, there is external bleeding from the natural openings.

Earlier, the head of the World Health Organization warned that in the future a new pandemic of a virus more deadly than COVID-19 could start in the world.
