A new strain of corona virus in Asia

Virologist, head of the MIPT Genomic Engineering Laboratory, Pavel Volchkov, predicted the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus.

The expert noted that if a new strain of COVID-19 emerges, it is likely to occur in “zero-tolerant regions of the Coruna virus”. Volchkov included China and South Asian countries among them.

In China, there are 1.5 billion people who have not actually gotten sick. Hypothetically, such a country could become a new round in the formation of strains: 1.5 billion people who did not get sick are a huge resource base for the virus, and it has a place in which to reproduce,” the virologist believes.

In other countries, the emergence of new variants of SARS-CoV-2 is difficult due to the lack of a sufficient resource base, the specialist indicated. He noted that most people in other regions of the world have already been infected with this virus.

And Pavel Volchkov added that, in general, the emergence of a new super-dynasty is unlikely.
