Johnson: Russia’s recognition of the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk “a violation of international law”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Russia’s recognition of the independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic is a violation of international law.

“Recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics is a clear violation of international law, a violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity and a rejection of the Minsk agreements. I think this is a very bad omen. This is certainly another sign that the situation is developing in the wrong direction,” Johnson said.
“The UK will do everything in its power to support the Ukrainian people.”

British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss also said Russia had shown a “flagrant disregard” of its obligations under the Minsk agreements.
