9,000-year-old tomb found in Jordan

A team of Jordanian and French archaeologists said that they found a tomb dating back about 9,000 years in a remote place in the eastern desert of Jordan.

The ritual complex was found in a Neolithic camp next to large structures known as “desert kites”.

“This is a unique site, mainly because of how well it has been preserved,” said Jordanian archaeologist Wael Abu Azizah, co-chair of the project. It is 9,000 years old and everything was almost fine. “

Inside the ritual building were two carved standing stones with anthropomorphic figures, as well as an altar, hearth, seashells and a scale model of a deer trap.

In a statement, the researchers said the shrine “sheds a whole new light on the symbolism and artistic expression as well as the spiritual culture of these hitherto unknown Neolithic peoples.”
