Japanese fighter jets intercept Russian helicopter

On Wednesday, March 2, a Russian helicopter crossed the northern border of the island of Hokkaido, the Japanese Defense Ministry said.

According to a Japanese Defense Ministry spokesperson, the accident occurred near the northern coast of Hokkaido – where Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) fighters were raised to intercept the helicopter.

Earlier it became known that 70 volunteers in Japan agreed to fight for Ukraine.

On February 27, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the creation of a combat unit inviting foreigners to join. On the same day, the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan announced the recruitment of volunteers on its Twitter account.

However, Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution declares the state’s rejection of war as a means of resolving international disputes. However, on September 19, 2015, the Japanese parliament allowed the use of the SDF to participate in military conflicts abroad.
