Pentagon: Moscow is recruiting Syrians to fight in Ukraine

According to the Pentagon, “accurate” media reports that Russia is trying to recruit Syrians to participate in the operation in Ukraine.

“We believe reports that Russia is trying to recruit Syrians, in particular, to fight in Ukraine, are accurate,” a senior Pentagon official said.

The Wall Street Journal, citing four unnamed US officials, reported that “Moscow is recruiting Syrians with experience in urban combat” to take part in the operation in Ukraine.

The Russian side claims that the Ukrainian security service is trying to recruit Syrians.

According to Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, militants of Albanian and Caucasian origin from the Syrian province of Idlib that are not under the control of the government are heading to Europe to take part in hostilities in Ukraine.
