Second 5.6-magnitude earthquake strikes Japan

A second earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred in northeastern Japan, according to the Secretary General of the Government of Japan, Hirokazu Matsuno.

Hirokazu Matsuno said that new earthquakes are possible. “Severe aftershocks are possible in these areas during the week. We ask everyone to be vigilant and cautious.”

Earlier, a strong 7.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean and hit northeastern Japan, according to the country’s main meteorological department. The source of the earthquake is located at a depth of 60 km. The emergency alarm system has been activated.

A tsunami threat has been declared in two prefectures of the country – Miyagi and Fukushima, and its height can reach about a meter. Tokyo also felt strong undulating shocks.

Residents were urged to find shelter. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
