German wheat prices increase due to Ukraine crisis

The head of the German Farmers’ Union, Joachim Rockweed, said that since the beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, wheat and food prices have risen sharply.

In his opinion, not only prices will remain high in the future, but food will continue to grow, especially because Ukraine, as one of the main suppliers of wheat and sunflowers, “falls” and this will have an impact on markets and prices.

Earlier, Demeter, an analytical center specializing in global agriculture, said that given the demand of a number of countries for Russian wheat, Russia will certainly continue to play an important role in the international arena.

According to the expert, the southwestern regions of Russia and Ukraine produce “about 15% of the world’s total wheat and about 30% of its world exports.”
Russia and Ukraine also account for 80% of the world’s sunflower oil production.

Before that, the French Ministry of Agriculture warned of a possible food crisis in the world due to the situation in Ukraine, where many Mediterranean countries import Russian and Ukrainian wheat.
