EU declares the need to continue contacts with Russia

The EU considers it necessary to continue diplomatic contacts with Russia and does not comment on the possible content of the new sanctions.

The corresponding statement was made during a briefing in Brussels by the representative of the European Union’s Foreign Service, Peter Stano.

“We consider the President of Russia to be the cause of the problem. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, it is necessary to continue contacts with him. The European Union considers it necessary to keep diplomatic contacts open as long as possible.

At the same time, the representative of the European Union stressed that the Union will accelerate work on new restrictive measures against Russia.

Earlier, the Financial Times reported that EU ambassadors plan on April 6 to discuss the issue of additional sanctions against Russia over the events in the Ukrainian village of Bucha.

According to the newspaper, the new measures could include additional individual sanctions, a ban on receiving Russian ships in EU ports, new export restrictions and a ban on energy supplies, including coal, oil or gas.
