Austria opposes Russian gas ban

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that a ban on Russian gas exports would not be fruitful, but on the contrary, it would harm Europe itself.

“We’ve always talked about sanctions, that they should attack whoever they target, not come back to us like a Boomerang,” Schallenberg said.

The view was expressed that the EU could “tighten the sanctions valve” in another way.

Schallenberg added that new sanctions against Russia will be approved this week and could be imposed soon, and the EU is now working on them.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said that the European Union is preparing to discuss a ban on the import of Russian natural gas.
