Execution of Tunisian lawmakers to hold parliament online

A number of deputies in Tunisia were accused, of trying to change the political system and start unrest, for their participation in an online meeting, which was held after the activities of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (Parliament) were suspended by a presidential decree.

During the meeting, the deputies voted on a bill against presidential decrees suspending the work of the House. In response, the head of state, Kais Saied, accused the deputies of an attempted coup and announced the dissolution of the parliament of the republic.

And the BBC indicated that the representatives who participated in the meeting faced controls from the anti-terrorist agencies in Tunisia, including Parliament Speaker Rachid Ghannouchi to testify.

The President of the Republic suspended the assembly’s activities 8 months ago in response to the mass protests caused by the deteriorating economic situation in Tunisia and criticism of government measures to combat the Corona virus pandemic.

Officially, this decision was a fulfillment of the demands of the demonstrators, but it also seriously strengthened the powers of the head of state.
