Ukraine loses 30% of its harvest

A shortage of pesticides in Ukraine could cause the country to lose up to 30% of its crop.

UNIAN indicated that the shortage of herbicides and fungicides in Ukraine could lead to a loss of 30% of the crop. In particular, this will happen due to the lack of plant protection products (PPP)”.

According to the director of agricultural direction of one of the largest Ukrainian agricultural holdings Myronivsky Khleboprodukt, Sergey Dobrogorsky, the shortage of plant protection products in the company is 60%.

This shortage problem was also recognized in other Ukrainian companies. For example, on the farm “Agrofirma Basis” they said that there are no plant protection products for May-June.

Lydia Ozerova, representative of the plant protection products department of the Chinese chemical company Syngenta in Ukraine, said that the lack of fungicides can have a very negative impact on winter crops and sunflowers, as it affects the quality of the grain.

Earlier, Oleg Serovatkin, a senior analyst in the global research department of Otkritie Investments, said that the decision of the US authorities to lift sanctions on fertilizers from Russia is an understandable and necessary measure. According to the specialist, the continuation of sanctions will lead to an even greater increase in prices for agricultural products, which are already growing without it, which will lead to an acceleration of food price inflation.
