China protests US-Taiwan arms deal

China protested and made a solemn representation to the United States over approving US arms supplies to Taiwan and helping Taipei maintain Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

The Chinese Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying that the United States has already agreed to supply $95 million in military technology to Taiwan, and will also provide specialists for the maintenance of Patriot air defense systems.

The statement stressed that such actions by Washington are “a serious violation of agreements and a flagrant interference in the internal affairs of the People’s Republic of China.”

Earlier, the US State Department approved a $95 million arms deal with Taiwan.

The French newspaper Le Monde has ranked Taiwan as one of the areas where military conflicts may erupt in 2022.
