Chinese Defense Ministry: Chinese military will take measures to prevent “Taiwan independence”

Chinese Ministry of National Defense spokesman Tan Kefee told reporters that the PRC army will take “effective measures” to stop any attempt to aid “Taiwan independence”.

This came in response to a question about the recent US arms sale to the Taiwanese government in the amount of $95 million.

“The Chinese People’s Liberation Army will take effective measures to crack down on any attempts by outside forces under any pretext to support the Taiwan separatists fail. We will resolutely defend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.”

The press release stressed that such actions by Washington are a “serious violation of agreements and flagrant interference in the internal affairs of the People’s Republic of China.”

Earlier, the US State Department agreed to conclude a deal with Taiwan to purchase and maintain Patriot anti-aircraft missile equipment and systems.
