Spain grants women leave during menstruation

The Spanish government plans to approve draft legislation that would allow short leave for women with menstrual cramps.

The legislative initiative will be considered by the Council of Ministers on May 17, 2022. If the law is approved, Spain will become the first European country to allow women to take up to three days off during their menstrual period.

In addition to providing “period leave”, the Spanish government wants to require schools to provide female students with pads.

Personal hygiene products will also be provided free of charge to women in difficult life situations.
