A virologist estimates the possibility of a monkeypox epidemic in the world

Virologist Professor Anatoly Alsteten believes that the number of monkeypox patients in the world may increase.

In contrast to the Corona virus, Altstin told the newspaper “Izvestia” that such viruses change poorly.

“Now we have a completely non-standard situation, when in different countries one or two cases each appeared. Of course, there may be more cases of transmission, and the number of patients may increase, but I think the nature of the virus has not changed.”

The specialist added that there will be no epidemic in the world.

Altstein also said that monkeypox virus was first recorded in 1958. The infection is believed to be more common in Africa, where the forest is located and human contact is possible not only with monkeys, but also with other animals.

According to him, monkeypox is close to the smallpox virus in its properties. Thus, the infection can be transmitted from person to person, but it is much less contagious than the smallpox virus. In this case, the course of the disease is severe.

In Europe, a number of cases of monkeypox infection have previously been confirmed. In Spain, 23 cases have already been registered, and the total number of cases is currently 30 people. About 11 people have been infected in the UK. Infections have also been reported from Portugal, the United States, Portugal and Germany.
