The Pentagon and State Department are discussing the possibility of sending special forces to Kyiv to ensure the security of the recently reopened US Embassy, the Wall Street Journal writes.
At the same time, this proposal was presented to US President Joe Biden. The article claims that if the initiative is approved, the troops will be deployed only for the protection and security of the embassy. However, the presence of US special forces in Kyiv meant an escalation from Biden’s initial statements that the United States would not send troops to Ukraine.
The US Embassy in Kyiv is currently guarded by the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service.
