US announces exercises in the South Pacific

The United States will conduct exercises in the South Pacific by the end of the year using the Royal Australian Air Force base in the western part of the continent.

The website of the Warsaw Institute indicates that the exercises are aimed at practicing measures to repel threats from China, which has an agreement with the Solomon Islands, located less than two thousand kilometers from the coast of Australia.

“The agreement between these parties does not rule out the military intervention of the People’s Liberation Army in the immediate vicinity of a major ally of the United States,” Warsaw Institute analysts say.

The exercises will be held in July 2022 at Curtin Base, with the participation of more than 2.2 thousand US military personnel stationed in Australia. This base is to be modernized for a total of $244 million with the replacement of communications, living quarters, hangars and security infrastructure.
