French minister refuses to resign after several women accuse him of rape

The Guardian newspaper revealed that the Minister of Solidarity and Autonomy for the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities in France fell into a scandal after several women accused him of rape.

According to the Guardian, the politician is accused of at least two incidents, in 2010 and 2011.

Abad himself, who was appointed minister on May 20, categorically denied all the accusations. According to the minister, he is unable to engage in any sexual violence, including because he suffers from arthritis, a congenital disease of the musculoskeletal system that affects human limbs.

Responding to the allegations, Abad said, “All the sexual relations I’ve had in my life have always been consensual. These accusations will hurt me deeply and those around me. I have always avoided bringing up my disability. I am compelled to do this now in order to defend myself and even go into detail about intimate things.” In order to make it clear that the actions of which I was accused were physically impossible, I repeat categorically, I have never raped anyone.

The minister stressed that he would not resign from his position because he considered himself completely innocent and did not see a reason for such a step. Moreover, Abad assured the French that he would focus on his work.

The allegations against the French minister were originally published on the Mediapart portal. According to him, a woman claims that she went to dinner with a politician in October 2010, drank a glass of champagne, and then woke up next to him in a hotel room in only her underwear. The second says she spent the night with Abad in 2011, she said, initially agreeing to be close to the politician, but then asked him to stop, which he allegedly did not.
