Turkey rejects NATO invitation to meet with Finland and Sweden on NATO membership

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg suggested holding a meeting of the foreign ministers of Turkey, Finland and Sweden.

In response to his proposal, Ankara stated that without responding to the conditions of the Turkish authorities on the issue, “the meeting is meaningless.”

On May 18, Finland and Sweden submitted requests to NATO to join the alliance. Turkey blocked the start of the review process for these applications.
