16,000 sheep drowned on their way from Sudan to Saudi Arabia

A ship carrying nearly 16,000 sheep sank in the Red Sea, on its way from Sudan to Saudi Arabia.

It is noteworthy that the cause of the accident was excess weight, according to Sky News Arabia.

The ship “Badr-1” was originally designed for 9 thousand heads, then it was modified – for 12 thousand heads, and at the time of the accident it had 15,800 sheep on board.

The shipment was intended for transportation to Saudi Arabia before Eid al-Adha. Suakin port authorities say there could be a major environmental threat to the Red Sea.
