G20 decided to invest $1.28 billion in the Epidemic Preparedness Fund

Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the G20 countries, during the meeting of heads of finance ministries and central banks, agreed to invest $1.28 billion in a fund to prepare for future epidemics.

“We will continue to discuss the management of this fund, as well as the next steps, and I hope it will be launched this year,” she said.

Indrawati added that some G20 members had already said they would contribute to this fund.

Earlier, Microsoft founder Bill Gates donated $20 billion to the charity named after him and his wife Melinda. The foundation plans to distribute funds among projects aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change, improving global food security, and future pandemics and their aftermath.
