India pays Russia for oil in UAE currency

Russia wants some Indian oil buyers to pay for it in dirhams, which is the currency of the UAE.

It follows from the document, which was reported by Reuters, that payments for oil in one of the refineries in India are in dollars. However, the Russian side requires payment in dirhams. In this case, settlements must be made on Gazprombank accounts through Mashreq.

The agency source indicated that two refineries in India have already started making oil payments in dirhams. At the same time, in the coming days, there will be more such payments, as well as refineries that will pay in this currency.

On July 17, columnist Charu Sudan Kasturi told Foreign Policy that India cannot refuse oil supplies from Russia, despite anti-Russian sanctions from Western countries.

According to him, India continues to buy oil, despite the fact that a number of Western leaders are trying to persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop imports.
