The European Commission obliges EU countries to submit plans to reduce gas consumption by 15%

The European Commission obliged the European Union countries to submit a plan by the end of this September for a voluntary cut in gas consumption by 15% for the period until March 31, 2023.

The European Commission believes that gas prices will continue to rise, but a decrease in its consumption may change the situation.

In addition, the plan states that work is underway to obtain additional gas supplies, but it has been emphasized that it will not be sufficient in the event of a serious supply disruption.

Earlier, the head of the EU’s diplomatic service, Josep Borrell, said that on July 20 the European Commission will study strategies for EU actions in the event of a halt in gas supplies from Russia. According to him, the European Union is ready for an unexpected supply cut.
