Scientists create a DNA nanoengine

In addition, the so-called DNA origami can be made, in which many molecules are linked to each other and form complex structures.

Heinrich Dietz and his colleagues created a molecular motor in this way. “We have developed this assembly technology over the years, and now we can create complex objects with high precision – for example, molecular switches or hollow containers that capture viral particles. And if you get the DNA strands in the right sequence, these things will assemble themselves,” he commented. The authors on the invention.

The motor consists of three parts: a base, a platform and a lever, while the base is attached to the outrigger. The 500nm lever is also attached to the base, but it can move, and there is a platform in between to limit its movement. In other words, we are talking about a ratchet on a molecular scale.

Torque is ten picuntons. The direction and speed of rotation can be controlled. The authors hope that the actuator will be widely used, for example, to control chemical reactions.
