The Egyptian authorities set rules regulating the taking of photos and videos in the streets and historical sites

The Egyptian authorities have set rules regulating the taking of photos and videos in the streets.

Shortly before this decision, Western bloggers said that attempts to photograph the scenes piqued the interest of law enforcement officers – security forces sometimes demanded that the photos be removed from the phone.

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism clarified that special permission is now required for photo and video cameras. This applies to the use of professional lighting equipment or those cases when it is necessary to block the road.

“[The director] is fully committed not to photograph or distribute images or videos that may in one way or another tarnish Egypt, and also undertakes not to photograph children and citizens – except after obtaining their written consent,” the statement read.

At the same time, shooting in museums and historical sites on mobile phones and personal cameras is possible only without the use of flash.
