UK sets record for sexual harassment of minors in army colleges

A record number of underage girls attending British army colleges reported incidents of sexual assault last year.

The number of reports of violence against minors has increased tenfold since 2015, the reports said. According to data for 2022, the military police identified 47 adolescents under the age of 18 as victims of sexual assault and rape, including 37 girls and 10 boys.

A spokesman for Britain’s Ministry of Defense told VIce that the agency does not comment on “individual cases”.

The military takes any allegations of rape or sexual assault seriously. Today’s service is very different from what it was 20 years ago. “But we continue to make important changes to eliminate any unacceptable behavior,” the department representative explained.

According to local laws, British citizens have the right to join the army from the age of 16. Teens need parental permission to do this.

The United Kingdom remains the only European country where this practice still exists.
