EU energy ministers reach agreement to reduce gas demand

European Union energy ministers have reached a political agreement to reduce gas demand in the coming months. This was announced by the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union on Twitter.

The report stated that “the ministers reached a political agreement to reduce gas demand before the next winter.”

On July 20, it was reported that the European Commission had obligated EU countries to submit a plan by the end of September for a voluntary 15% reduction in gas consumption for the period until March 31, 2023.

A number of European countries did not support this initiative, including Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland and Hungary.

On July 26, representatives of European Union countries approved an emergency plan to reduce gas consumption by 15%.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said the European Commission’s proposal to cut gas consumption by 15% was “not feasible”.
