Astronomers solve the mystery of the formation of dwarf galaxies

India’s first multi-wavelength space observatory, Astrosat, has revealed the secret of the origin of dwarf galaxies.

Dwarf galaxies are small galaxies made up of several billion stars. It is difficult to detect due to its low luminosity, low mass, and small size.

The team analyzed 17 hours of Astrosat observations of 11 dwarf galaxies. According to scientists, stars are formed in the vicinity of the galaxy, and then roll towards the center of the galaxy. Thus, they contribute to its growth.

Bruce Elmgren, one of the study’s authors, said, “It has been a mystery how some small galaxies can have such an active star formation. Our observations show that gas accumulating in the vicinity of galaxies is moving towards the center due to the influence of gas and stellar clusters. It is this migration that contributes to Galactic growth.
