Gazprom begins burning gas after being cut off from Europe

Russian energy company Gazprom has been burning gas for several weeks near the Russian-Finnish border near the Portovaya compressor station (CS), where Nord Stream turbines are being installed.

It is noteworthy that, according to satellite images of the NASA Fire Monitoring System, every day since June 17, flames erupt in Portovaia. No other fires were recorded in the compressor station area.

The flame started igniting three days after the fuel pumping through the Nord Stream gas pipeline was down to 40%. Then, from July 11 to July 21, Russia completely cut off gas supplies via Nord Stream for the duration of the maintenance.

Now Gazprom sends only 20% of the planned gas pipeline capacity via Nord Stream. The company has reduced the amount of fuel pumped in from July 27 due to the overhaul of another Siemens gas turbine engine at Portovaya CS.
