In India, several people have opened a fake police station and extorted money from local residents for several months.
Scammers worked in Bihar, just half a kilometer from the home of the local police chief. Men and women in police uniforms and carrying weapons took money from people who came to the “Police” to file a complaint or report a crime.
In addition, the scammers extorted money from those in need of housing and those who wanted to get a job in the police.
After a while, the scam failed when an undercover police officer noticed the scammers roaming the city in police uniform. So far, six gang members have been arrested.
Law enforcement believes that the fake site’s main organizer is still at large.
