Mpox: Department of Health reports substantial increase in cases

NEW YORK (WABC) — The New York City Health Department says a substantial increase in cases of what is now called the ‘Mpox’ virus has been reported since last October.

The department also warns of a more serious strain of the disease that has emerged in Congo and could now spread here.

94 percent of local patients are gay and bisexual men.

The number of cases remains well below the peak of almost two years ago.
