London decided to expel the Russian military attaché from the UK, deprive some properties of diplomatic status and limit the validity of Russian diplomatic visas, reports Reuters.
The head of the British Home Office, James Cleverley, during a speech in parliament, called this move a response to “malign Russian activities” throughout the UK and Europe. In London they claim that the attache is related to Russian military intelligence.
Cleverly also noted that Moscow, in all likelihood, will accuse the British authorities of Russophobia. The minister called on Russia to withdraw troops from Ukrainian territory and stop “harmful activities.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow will give an adequate response.
Cleverly’s statement came amid recent accusations against two British residents of setting fire to a warehouse containing weapons for Ukraine. The investigation believes that the accused acted on orders from the Russian authorities. The Russian Foreign Ministry called these statements absurd.
