ABC is renewing the lion’s share of its most high-profile unscripted series for the 2024-2025 TV season. Among the shows back are “American Idol,” “The Bachelor” and “Dancing With the Stars” (which is also simulcast on Disney+).
Also returning: “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” as well as “What Would You Do?” and “Shark Tank.” Decisions are still to be made on a handful of other unscripted series.
For “Dancing With the Stars,” this reps the 33rd cycle of the show, which is hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough and features a panel of judges including Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough. BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions produces.
“American Idol” will enter its eighth season on ABC and its 23rd overall (including its long run on Fox). This will rep the first season since the ABC revival without Katy Perry, who is departing the chair she has held with fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Ryan Seacrest continues to host the show from Fremantle and Sony Pictures TV’s 19 Entertainment. Megan Michaels Wolflick is showrunner and exec produces with Fremantle’s Jennifer Mullin, as well as Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman for 19 Ent.
“The Bachelor” will enter its 29th season next year; Jesse Palmer is host on the series from Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Claire Freeland, Jason Ehrlich, Bennett Graebner, Peter Gust, Tim Warner, Jodi Baskerville and Jeff Thomas are executive producers.
“Shark Tank,” which enters Season 16, includes sharks Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John and Kevin O’Leary. Mark Burnett, Clay Newbill, Yun Lingner, Max Swedlow, Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, Kevin O’Leary, Phil Gurin and Brandon Wallace are executive producers of “Shark Tank,” which is produced by MGM Television in association with Sony Pictures Television.
“Celebrity Jeopardy!” is back for its third season, hosted by Ken Jennings and executive produced by Michael Davies, while “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” is back for a fifth edition. Pat Sajak and Vanna White are the long-running hosts on “Wheel of Fortune,” but with Sajak retiring from the daytime edition (he’ll be succeeded by Seacrest), there’s not yet any word whether Seacrest will also assume the host gig in the primetime version.
Also announced, ABC News’ “What Would You Do?” is back for a 17th season. The fates of shows including “$100,000 Pyramid,” “The Chase,” “Generation Gap,” “The Parent Test” and “The Prank Panel,” among others, will be determined at another date.
