ABU DHABI, May 13 / WAM / The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi revealed a declaration of principles on bioconvergence to transform healthcare and improve human health and well-being, as part of the outcomes of the Healthcare Leaders Forum held within the activities of Abu Dhabi International Healthcare Week.
The Declaration – the first initiative of its kind – sets out global principles that include guidance on transparency, accountability and impartiality, as well as the ethics of research and decision-making in the field of bioconvergence.
The Declaration of Principles will witness cooperation between the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and leading local and international entities, including Amazon, Microsoft, the United Arab Emirates University, Core42, and Masdar City.
These principles, distributed over six strategic pillars, aim to enhance research and development in the field of bioconvergence, encourage investment in this field to meet pressing health care challenges, create frameworks for international cooperation, give priority to areas of research in public health and personalized and precision medicine, and promote the adoption of advanced technologies resulting from artificial intelligence and medicine. Dr. Asma Ibrahim Al Mannai, Executive Director of the Research and Innovation Center at the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, said: “In light of the complexities of bioconvergence, setting strict principles is not just an option but rather a collective responsibility.”
She added that these principles act as a beacon of transparency, a guardian of accountability, and a shield against any form of bias, noting that in light of the continuous convergence and intersection between health and technology, integrity and diligence remain elements that guide the department on this path.
She pointed out that enhancing cooperation and knowledge exchange among stakeholders in this field, calling for the adoption of supportive policies and regulations, and engaging the community through awareness campaigns and transparent communication are all crucial steps in developing bioconvergence research and innovation while maintaining community trust and support, explaining that all of these are the main pillars.
