US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit, during which he intends to discuss issues of military assistance to Ukraine from the United States, reported State Department.
Blinken himself wrote on social media X: “I returned to Kyiv today to demonstrate our unwavering support for Ukraine as it defends its freedom from Russian aggression.”
Blinken arrived by night train from Poland and is due to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky soon.
“First and foremost, this trip is aimed at sending a clear message to the Ukrainians, who are obviously in a very difficult situation both due to the fighting on the eastern front and due to the fact that Russian troops are expanding cross-border attacks in the Kharkiv region “, a member of the American delegation told reporters.
During meetings with Ukrainian officials, the American Secretary of State plans to reaffirm continued US support for Ukraine, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller noted.
In addition, the head of the American foreign policy department expects to give a speech on the situation in Ukraine.
This is Blinken’s fourth visit to Kyiv since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. And the first since Congress approved a $61 billion military aid package to Ukraine at the end of April.
