America is discussing with the United Nations ways to improve humanitarian conditions inside Gaza amid continuing violent fighting

The United States and the United Nations discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and the efforts made to improve humanitarian conditions inside Gaza amid the ongoing military attacks and violent fighting.

This came during a meeting between the Director of the American Agency, Samantha Power, and the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Affairs. Humanitarian and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths… according to the US Agency for International Development in a statement published on its official website today  Wednesday.

The two sides discussed the deteriorating conditions following the recent escalation of Israeli military attacks, including new displacements of more than a million people, along with severe food insecurity, alarming reports of child malnutrition, and the urgent need for shelter, water and sanitation support. Power stressed the need for a sustainable supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza, citing the current challenges regarding the distribution of aid and the need for aid to reach the most vulnerable groups, especially children and mothers. 

The two parties touched on the need for Israel to take further measures to improve the safety and security of civilians in Gaza and humanitarian workers.

The director of the American agency and the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations discussed the proposal, which aims to achieve a permanent ceasefire. Fire in Gaza and securing the release of all detainees, and stressed their joint call on Hamas to accept the deal that would allow the return of Palestinian civilians to northern Gaza, increase humanitarian aid, and restore basic services.

For her part, Power expressed her appreciation for the heroic efforts. The efforts of UN staff and NGOs to provide life-saving assistance to people in Gaza.
